Petty Harbour Mini Aquarium 50/50 Fundraiser

The Mission of the Petty Harbour Mini Aquarium is to foster curiosity for our oceans and local marine life, and to inspire action towards personal and global sustainability through display, interpretation and direct action. Situated within the local Fishermen’s Co-operative building, our modest space comes to life each season from June to September with up to thirty live animal displays, exhibits and hands-on educational programming. Our marine habitats help bring the ocean to eye-level, allowing people of all ages the opportunity to discover local species up close, to get their hands wet in our touch tanks as they hold and learn about intertidal animals, and to have profound personal experiences that come from witnessing nature first hand. We hope our visitors will develop a new appreciation for the marine environment, and that this will translate into personal action for change in their daily lives.

In the off-season from October until June, the Mini Aquarium offers an educational outreach program for local groups of all ages and interests. This initiative allows our organization to operate beyond the short tourism season, reaching a different demographic of ocean enthusiasts. Our science educators deliver hands-on programming with touch tank animals, multi-media, physical activities and demonstrations. We provide experiential learning opportunities directly to schools, community groups, Scouts and Guides, daycares and seniors groups. Outreach allows the team to continue our mission while the Mini Aquarium’s doors are closed, providing educational opportunities to groups that would otherwise not be able to visit the facility.

The Petty Harbour Mini Aquarium is conducting this 50/50 draw fundraiser to support its marine education activities. The draw will be held at 35A Southside Road, Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove, NL.
